Guest speaker: Paul Kinzer, Amateur Astronomer and Author

Finish your full weekend of Earth Day celebrations by attending the FWEC annual meeting.  After a brief business meeting we will enjoy conversation and light refreshments.

Our guest speaker this year is Paul Kinzer, an amateur astronomer and author who will talk us through the night sky.  Here is some information from Paul’s website:

If the Starlab Planetarium is the “heart” of Seeing Stars, its director, Paul Kinzer, is the “head”.  A 1984 graduate of the University of Minnesota at Morris, Paul has over 25 years of experience working with children of all ages.  He designed and directed a summer nature study program for Minneapolis Kids, the School-Age Care Program of the Minneapolis Public Schools.  He’s been an avid amateur astronomer for nearly 20 years, and currently owns about a dozen telescopes telescopes, several of which he built himself.

Paul is also the author of Stargazing Basics: Getting Started in Recreational  Astronomy, from Cambridge University Press.  Paul designed a short class based on the book, which was offered by Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  He’s been a guest several times on the Wisconsin Public Radio Ideas Network program Conversations with Larry Meiller, to talk about astronomy and to answer callers’ questions.

Paul enjoys the challenge of astrophotography, and he took all the astrophotos you see on this website.  He is a member of the La Crosse Area Astronomical Society.
