Canceled – Gobblers on the Go! 11.13.21

Join us for a birding hike on November 13th to explore how lively Big Hill Park can be during the winter! A lot of animals either hibernate, undergo torpor (short-term hibernation), or want nothing to do with the cold and, therefore, migrate. Some birds in Canada migrate south for the winter and land in Beloit! Other animals, however, do not migrate and stay active during the winter.

Participants will learn the basics of migration and observe real-time migration patterns of birds across the United States (courtesy of BirdCast). We will also cover binocular use and etiquette as well as winter bird identification. All observations will be logged into eBird as citizen science is very important! Definitely bring your own binoculars if you have them, but sets of binoculars provided by the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology will also be available for use during the hike (first come, first served). A children’s craft will be available to complete after the hike at the Center or take home if interested.

Masks will be required while indoors at the start, but we will also be outside most of the morning, so dress appropriately.

This event is free to the public for all ages. Donations are accepted and appreciated.
