Thank you for the interest in Welty’s Goose Creek River Walk program. Your support means the world to us. However, at this time we must cancel this program. We have been monitoring the creek water levels, river bed conditions, and debris over the course of the last two weeks. All three conditions are not currently favorable to conduct a river walk. The creek is very high, averaging 30-inches. The river bed is unstable with several sections increasing total depth to 45-inches (30-inches of water + 15-inches of loose mud). There is also an increase in debris that is difficult to see because the water is not clear.
Come out to the Welty Environmental Center and get into Goose Creek, a small creek that empties into the Rock River at Big Hill Park. We will explore the river using our sense of smell, touch, hearing, and sight. We will look for water insects, frogs, and fish.
Sections of Goose Creek are shallow enough for kids of at least three feet tall.
Footwear must be worn. Goose Creek has a silt (mud) bottom that we will sink into. Old shoes that can be lost are encouraged.
