Rock River Snapshot Initiative training day @ Welty Environmental Center

Rock River Snapshot Initiative training day

Welty is looking for water enthusiasts all ages to take part in Rock River Snapshot day, sponsored the Rivers Alliance of Wisconsin.

Big Hill Park is one of eight rendezvous sites around the Rock River Basin in southern Wisconsin, where volunteers will gather to help search for invasive species, including escaped and released aquarium and water garden plants that could choke our rivers and streams if gone undetected.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the Darth Waders or Stream Troopers stream monitoring teams for this Wisconsin-based project, please give us a call!

We will be holding an initial training session on Tuesday, June 13th, 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

Bring your waders, boots, or water shoes if you have them.

Once teams are established, monitors will visit designated stream sites once a month, during the summer, to collect information that helps track the health of our waterways.

We will also be setting up similar teams at Nature at the Confluence to monitor Rock River and Turtle Creek just south of the border in Illinois, so opportunities abound for citizen science this summer!

Free and open to all ages.
