Welty's 2022 Summer Camp Registration @ Welty Environmental Center

Welty’s 2022 Summer Camp Registration

June 20, 2022 – September 2, 2022

Welty Environmental Center is back for the 2022 summer camp season! We will be investigating, exploring, building, experimenting, and crafting while learning about natural resources around the Stateline area. Bring your bikes, skates, hoverboards, and/or scooters on Wheel Day Fridays to explore trails around Big Hill Park in a new way. Don’t forget to pack extra clothes as we will be getting wet and dirty while exploring wetlands and different soils over the summer! We will spend most of our time outdoors in Big Hill Park, but be ready to take trips to nearby places such as Krueger Pool, Colored Sands Forest Preserve, Rotary Botanical Gardens, and so many more! We would LOVE to have your camper every week, but you can sign up for one week at a time. Please pre-register at least one week in advance.

Ages 6 to 12
M-F, 8am to 3:00pm
Member $110.00/week
Non-Member $130.00/week
Aftercare $15/week 3:00pm to 5:00pm

Family memberships are $45, and there is an option to join on the registration page. Memberships are for 1 year, good from date of sign-up to 12/31. Memberships purchased after 9/30 will continue through 12/31 of the following year.

Weekly Themes

June 20-24, 2022 |  Wetlands of Wisconsin: Dive into local wetlands and learn about what makes a wetland different from forests and prairies. We will be using the scientific method to compare wetlands around Beloit.

June 27-July 1, 2022 | Avian Adventures: Take flight with native birds of Big Hill Park! Learn how to use binoculars, identify different bird species, and investigate how birds do different things like flying, laying eggs, and migrating!

July 5-8, 2022* | Metamorphic Madness: Lots of change is happening in the environment, and we are going to investigate it all! From rocks to frogs and grasshoppers, we will be investigating how these critters undergo a process called metamorphosis (yes, rocks are critters, too!). * Four-day week in observance of Independence Day

July 11-15, 2022 | Critter Cartography: Follow animals through the landscape to see how they travel without maps or compasses across the street or an entire ocean! Don’t forget your adventure hats as we learn how to use compasses, read maps, and geocache around Big Hill Park.

July 18-22, 2022 | Wild Careers: Who would’ve thought there would be a job market in the wilderness? Join us as we learn how plants and animals fulfill their jobs in nature and how these jobs compare to what people do!

July 25-29, 2022 | The World Underfoot: Kids dig playing in the dirt! Let’s get our hands dirty as we answer questions about what we can find in soil and how it can have an impact on habitat quality.

August 1-5, 2022 | Friends in High Places: The sky’s the limit as we adventure with clouds and weather! We will be building meteorological tools throughout the week, and by Friday, we will be able to forecast the weather.

August 8-12, 2022 | Science of the Small Things: Keep an eye out for details in nature that we will be able to get a closer look at with microscopes! Plants, insects, and feathers galore. There is so much at Big Hill Park we can explore!

August 15-19, 2022 | Wildlife on the Move: Walk, run, or hop to Welty as we learn about how animals move through the landscape. Animals play games to learn how to walk and run, and humans play games to achieve goals as well (pun intended)!

August 22-26, 2022 | Dedication to Reptiles and Amphibians Week: Join us as we answer questions about one of the most underrepresented groups of animals in the world! We will be playing games to determine differences between reptiles and amphibians. We will also learn how to study snakes in their natural environment and use the scientific method to determine where to find them.

August 29-September 2, 2022 | The Pine will Provide: Let’s learn to talk like a tree as we learn how trees are alive and forests can change over time. We will also be conducting citizen science using the WI Department of Natural Resources TreePlotter program!

Registration is limited to a set number of campers each week based on physical space and staffing levels. Each camper must be registered separately. Sign-up is for the entire week. We are not able to process refunds for missed days. Refunds will not be issued due to missed days.

  • If you register your camper for multiple weeks, refunds will be issued only for full weeks:
    • 14 days in advance 100% – a $5.00 processing fee
    • 7 days in advance 50% – a $5.00 processing fee

Outside & Inside. We will strive to be outside as much as possible. We will only head inside if the weather does not permit us to be outside.

Welty is taking specific steps to reduce participant and staff risk of transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Campers and staff will be required to adhere to national, state, and local guidelines for group gatherings. If you choose to have a camper participate in this program:

  • Vaccination: Welty strongly recommends that all campers be vaccinated against COVID-19 to ensure the highest safety possible for all campers and staff and to also reduce the possibility of camp closures due to close contact.
    • CDC recommendation for close contact for un-vaccinated individuals is to quarantine for 10 days. Those that are vaccinated (including any recommend boosters) and are not showing symptoms many continue to attended camp. Refunds for missed days will not be issued.
  • Upon arrival, campers will be asked a few heath questions and have their temperature taken.
  • If your camper is showing symptoms, they should be kept at home. At any time a camper shows symptoms, the camper will be separated from the others and sent home.
    • Campers will be allowed to return after 72 hours of controlled temperature without medication. A refund for missed days will not be issued.
    • Campers that take an at-home test and test negative and do not have a fever, may return to camp sooner.
  • Masking. We will following the CDC County Level Guide. If Rock County is “low” or “Medium” masking will not be needed, but any would be free to wear one at anytime. If “high,” we will mask indoors, except during lunch or snacks.
  • Lunch and snacks should be packed and are the responsibility of the caregiver.
  • Limit sharing of supplies.
  • Wash hands, use sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, sanitizing spray for hands.

After registering, please complete the 2022 Summer Camp Emergency Contact Information. Please note that emergency contact information is due 7 days before the first day of camp. All campers must have medical insurance.
