The Welty Environmental Center (WEC) is a non-profit educational organization, dedicated to providing the Wisconsin-Illinois stateline area with experiences in nature, leadership opportunities and thoughtful consideration of environmental issues for children, families and adults. Over the last year, the WEC provided educational experiences for almost 9,000 people, including students from 30 different schools

FTE: 0.63 (25 Hours/Week)
Pay: $11.00/hour
Time: Weekdays Shifts: 7:30am to 12:30pm or 12:30pm to 5:30pm

Department: Programs

Department Description: The Programs Department creates and delivers engaging outdoor recreational activities and hands-on science-based field trips for pre-K through 12 students and adults in the Stateline Area and surrounding counties.

Center Description: The Welty Environmental Center is located in the 190-acre Big Hill Park in Beloit. The center partners with area schools and organizations bringing more than 10,000 people annually to the park. The park features three primary biomes of prairie-oak savannah, Deciduous Forest, and River Front.

Position Summary: The Seasonal Summer Camp Educator is responsible for assisting with 5 weeks of summer camp July 31th – August 30th. The educator will be responsible for checking-in and out campers, including screening for COVID-19 symptoms. They will create and lead engaging activities such as hikes, crafts, and art. They will participate in all activities run by the Environmental Educator and Program Director. They are in charge of helping campers keep all areas of the center clean.

Required Qualifications:

  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Likes to work with children 7 to 12 years old
  • Enjoys being outside in all types of weather
  • Able to work independently and in collaborative situations
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift 20 to 40 pounds
  • Ability to walk 2 to 3 miles at one time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college level coursework
  • Summer camp experience
  • Experience in the environmental and educational fields
  • Strong background teaching and early childhood development
  • Good program planning and program development skills
  • Passion for environmental education and conservation

Terms of Employment: This is a part-time seasonal at-will position.
