Meet Welty’s 2021 Summer Camp Staff

Meet our summer camp staff. They are a bunch of wonderful human beings who enjoy being outside, getting their hands dirty, and playing science-based games to explore the diverse habitats at Big Hill Park. They are spending this week getting camp ready for next week. Camp starts on Monday, 6/21! As part of their training this week, they assisted Fruzen Intermediate students with a fun-filled morning of scavenger hunts and shelter building.

Duke – is a rising junior at Beloit College majoring in Environmental Justice and Citizenship with a minor in Mathematics. He speaks English, German, Chinese, and he has two turtles that he misses dearly while he studies in the United States.

Darien – is Welty’s new Environmental Educator and has her Master of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources from the West Virginia University School of Natural Resources. She also has camp experience from Howard Christensen Nature Center in Kent City, MI.

Hanna – is returning, as she was a camp counselor in 2019. She is at the University of Minnesota – Minneapolis studying Biology, Society, and Environment, and Marine Biology. You can also find her this summer managing concessions for the Snappers.

Aaron – Me! I am Welty’s Program Director, and I love camp. It provides the extra time needed to get personal with our surroundings and really learn how we (humans) are a participating community in our local ecosystem.

Raven – is the first female Eagle Scout from Beloit, WI. You can see her Eagle Scout project just northeast of the Big Hill Park’s upper playground. She built a hammock hinge! She is also taking a class this summer at CareerTek. 

Andrea – has her BA in Environmental Engineering from  the National School of Biological Sciences at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico City, Mexico. She also completed an internship as an Environmental Educator in Ghuanzau, China. 

Ava – is one of our Junior Camp Counselors, who will join us throughout the summer. She is a long-time Welty camper. She is excited for this new experience and is ready to help campers feel welcomed and part of the team.   

I am super excited for camp this summer and for such a wonderful team of interesting and dynamic individuals. I can’t wait to see what we will have.
