Since 2018, Welty has been a member of Nature Net, an environmental learning network located in south-central Wisconsin. So many great organizations are members: Aldo Leopold Nature Center, Henry Vilas Zoo, UW-Madison Arboretum, International Crane Foundation, Cave of the Mounds, Madison Children’s Museum, and many others. We’ve been meeting regularly and strategizing about how best to serve our communities in this time of social distancing.
Most members are just an hour’s drive from Beloit–an easy day trip once we’re ready to venture out for some local tourism. Many are on School District of Beloit field trips, so you might have a student who can serve as your tour guide on a virtual–or actual–visit.

Nature Net has a great website, with lots of resources for families–including online activities, virtual tours, and links to all the members for more ways to connect.
They also publish a nature passport every summer, with self-guided family programs from each member. You can download a copy in English, or Spanish to work on over the summer. We will also have copies at Big Hill Center in the little library outside the front door, while the Center is closed to the public. Check out the Welty activity on page 22!
